first heart break

K. is 5 years old today.  That in itself is crazy.  This past week, B. was sick with up to a 104 fever with strep; it started while he was in NC on a business trip and then he was locked in our room for the next 3 days. He never gets sick so that was also crazy.   R. had his first cold and coughed so hard that he was choking on Tues night.  The fear that still runs through my body when I think about it is crazy.  I got sick on Thursday-- all in all, planning a party was crazy.

But, we got healthy, moved the party to church so that no one was infected by our germy house, and were ready to roll.  THis year was the first year that K.  planned his own guest list.  We allow our kids to invite one more kid than the age that they are.  He didn't invite my friends kids, but wanted kids from school.  After I got over my own feelings and realized that it was his party and not mine, I looked up the class list and sent out the invites.  All he kept saying was, "I hope that C. comes."  Me too buddy.  I sent out the reminder email and singled out her mom making sure she knew how excited that K. was to have her come to his party.

Party day arrived; we had giant boxes made to look like legos, lego face masks, and a lego guy come to lead the kids in making 2 models

The kids that came were having fun but I kept noticing my boy stopping and staring at the door.  "When is C. coming?"  I don't know, buddy.

He got to make the scariest lego guy ever.  "When is C. coming?"  I don't know buddy.  Meanwhile, I'm thinking to myself, "If I ever meet C.'s mom, I may punch her in the face."

B. was noticing it as well. He came up and said, "broken heart but we're working through it."

Well C., you may have been the first broken heart, but, i"m sure you're not the last.  And, sorry for you but, he was over it by cake time.

Happy 5th birthday to my artistic yet rambunxious, serious yet hilarious, amazingly fantastic boy.
